Lifelong collector, creek kid, and the founder of ColorCrayfish.com.
I'm Tim Nichols, and yes, that's my son Waylon riding along in the backpack. He supervises most of what happens around here.
You may already know me from MrMaple.com, my mail-order Japanese maple nursery with one of the largest collections of maples in the world, or from FirebellyToads.com, where I share my love of frogs. Color Crayfish is the newest branch of the same simple idea: collect the most beautiful varieties of something you love, learn everything about them, and share them with people who'll love them too.
I've loved animals my whole life. As a kid I spent hours in the local creek catching crayfish, minnows, and salamanders, and honestly, not much has changed.
As an adult I discovered the crayfish-collecting hobby that's huge across many Asian countries, with seemingly endless varieties, colors, and breeds. For a born collector, that was it. The same drive that built one of the world's largest Japanese maple collections now goes into breeding and collecting the most vivid color crayfish I can find.
I love raising crayfish because they are so darn easy to keep. Make sure they can't escape, give the water oxygen with a filter or bubble stone, and you will pretty much have success.
They'll eat just about anything. A dead cricket left over from feeding my frogs? They'll eat it. Vegetables left over from dinner? They'll eat it. Just be careful not to overfeed them.
And the personalities! Drop food in the tank and every crayfish comes running. Between the claws, the unbelievable color patterns, and their little attitudes, they make for a genuinely entertaining aquarium. Who doesn't love a freshwater lobster?
Vivid, captive-bred crayfish shipped safely to your door.
